BioShock is a first-person shooter that merges horror elements with storytelling. In the underwater city of Rapture, which Andrew Ryan created as a utopia, soon descended into chaos following genetic alterations that granted superhuman abilities through the substance known as plasmids.
You take on the role of Jack, who, after a plane crash, discovers the city and its deranged inhabitants. Through intense combat and strategic use of plasmids, players uncover murky secrets of Rapture
Combining weapons and plasmids is crucial for survival, making combat a fun experience. Plasmids help to exploit enemies’ weaknesses or use the environment to your advantage. Weapons provide the firepower needed to handle the threats within Rapture.
By strategically pairing specific plasmids with weapons, you can manifest your ideas into powerful combos that obliterate your enemies.
With this in mind, here is my list of the top four weapon and plasmid combos that helped me.
1. Electro Bolt and Shotgun
The Electro Bolt stuns enemies and is advantageous on machines like turrets and security bots. It is also perfect for crowd control.
A Shotgun blast delivers powerful close-range damage. It’s ideal for stunned enemies, especially in water.

Best used against Splicers and Big Daddies in close quarters – Bouncer Big Daddy gave me the hardest time.
2. Incinerate and Crossbow
Incinerate is a great damage over time power. As your plasmid hand burns, you set enemies on fire and can increase damage if used multiple times.
The Crossbow offers high damage and precision. It is effective with fire traps and fun with fire bolts.

Best used against Ranged attackers and in defensive scenarios.
3. Winter Blast and Shotgun/Grenade Launcher
Winter Blast (my favorite because I like ice powers) freezes enemies, making them vulnerable to shatter.
The Grenade Launcher can shatter frozen enemies or deal massive area damage – whichever you find most useful.
The Shotgun, on the other hand, was my go-to on machines as it does massive damage up close and can easily shatter enemies when frozen.

Best used against Groups and heavily armored foes like turrets, cameras, or security bots.
4. Insect Swarm and Machine Gun
Insect swarm allows you to do damage over time on several enemies and puts them occasionally in a stun animation.
Pair a swarm with the Machine Gun, and you’ll get sustained firepower, which is excellent for adding pressure and additional damage to enemies.

Use this combo against multiple enemies.
Strategic Tips
For ammo, I found it easier to get crossbow and shotgun ammo during my playthrough. This experience is likely due to my playstyle and the materials I tended to collect to make the ammo.
So, it is sometimes best to mix and match a Shotgun with an Incineration or a crossbow with an Electric Bolt.
With EVE, the fuel for Plasmids, it could have been more plentiful for me, meaning I used Incinerate more often than Electric Bolt or Winter Blast to conserve my energy. Again, this is likely an issue of my playstyle.
However, I would immediately switch to Winter Blast and Shotgun to take out machines I spotted, as that finished them off quickly.
Closing Thoughts
Ultimately, make sure you get familiar with the weapons and Plasmid, as each combo you find will inevitably come in handy.
Everyone has different ways of doing things, and that’s a good thing. So, experiment with different combos, as you might find better combinations.
Feel free to comment and share your favorite combos. I’m curious to know if your combos worked. Also, feel free to explore my other blog posts where I reviewed Bioshock in more detail.
